If you wanna put labels on music, I don’t really like doing it but… I’d say most of Nirvana’s Bleach album is more like what the media wants us to think grunge is. In general though their music was much closer to pop punk with an attitude I think. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Nirvana were all thrown in to one genre of music together but are completely different. Probably just cos they all came out of the Seatlle area and to create a new collective movement puts a bandwagon in motion

nirvana sounds NOTHING like alice in chains. alice in chains is strictly newer metal. Nirvana were like the pixies with a pop punk sound. People are so naive about the “grunge scene” the grunge scene was put on america from the media. Nirvana didn’t walk around saying, oh we’re a grunge band, they considered themselves punk. Dont fall into what the media always says

I’m not sure that “grunge is dead” is a good way to put it, a lot of Nirvana’s music is just as relevant today as it was then… For instance, if a song like Heart Shaped Box had JUST come out now, no one would think it sounded old, it would be just as relevant as it was then.

Not really, grunge is still alive. Their legacy is still rocking nowadays. And don’t forget that some great grunge bands continued after Kurt Cobain’s death, such as Alice in Chains. They really rock.
